The Kvarner Vienna Insurance Group d.d. is a part of thea large Vienna Insurance Group "family" – one of the leading insurance groups in Central and Eastern Europe.

It was formed by the merger of two companies: Wiener Städtische osiguranje d.d. Zagreb and Kvarner osiguranje d.d. Rijeka.

Wiener Städtische osiguranje d.d. – a member of the Wiener Städtische Group from Vienna, entered the Croatian market in September, 1999 as an insurance company registered for all insurance operations but primarily engaged in life assurance. Kvarner osiguranje d.d. was founded in 1998 and registered for all non- life assurance operations.

With the merger of these two companies into Kvarner Wiener Städtische osiguranje d.d., a complete insurance offer for the Croatian market was achieved

In December, 2005, Kvarner Wiener Städtische osiguranje merged with Aurum Wiener Städtische osiguranje, resulting in an expanded sales network and improved service quality. Since 2006, the Vienna Insurance Group has been the umbrella brand of the Wiener Städtische Group in Central and Eastern Europe, which is why all the companies belong to the Group use the Vienna Insurance Group as their "family" name. Thus, Kvarner Wiener Städtische osiguranje became Kvarner Vienna Insurance Group d.d. za osiguranje in 2007.

The Vienna Insurance Group operates in 24 Central and East – European countries. Its roots go back to the year 1824, when Wiener Städtische was founded. It has nearly 24.000 employees and is among the 1.000 largest companies in the world.

The Kvarner Vienna Insurance Group, with 511.421.000,00 kn of realized premiums in 2010, ranks fifth on the Croatian insurance market, with a 5,5% market share.
